Traumatic events can shatter our fundamental sense of safety, identity and trust in others, making us feel that our pain is who we are. Self-regulating and attuning our bodies will help you feel better equipped to deal with difficult situations, while still practicing self-awareness, managing triggers, and recognizing the trauma that resides within our bodies. Without this painstaking effort to separate ourselves from this trauma, we end up falling back into the same pattern and behaviors that protected us from it—but no longer serve us.
